SHABANIE MINE KEEN TO EXPLORE INTERNATIONAL MARKETS

Shabani Mashava Mines (SMM) is optimistic that its asbestos fibre remains competitive on the international market despite campaigns against use of asbestos in some international countries.
Managing Director for AA Mines, a subsidiary of SMM Holdings, Mr Stephen Nyagura said the mine produces quality fibre and it still has available markets in India which was confirmed by the Minerals Marketing Cooperation of Zimbabwe after visiting that country last year.
He said when resuscitated, the mine has the potential to bring in the much needed foreign currency to the country.
Mr Nyagura was speaking yesterday during a fact finding tour of Shabanie Mine in Zvishavane by the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Mines and Energy.
Shabani mine is currently running at 10 percent capacity utilisation with only 5% of its equipment running.
