The Ministry of Lands, Agriculture and Rural Settlement has encouraged communal farmers to shift to commercial farming to ensure food security
Speaking at the National SeedCo Field Day , Minister of Agriculture Perrence Shiri said communal farming sector is now a major contributor for cotton and maize thereby ensuring food security for the country.
He added on to say commercial agriculture contributes directly to the fiscus through tax and is synonymous with crops for export thus subsistence farmers should venture into commercial farming to help secure food security and competition in the sector.
Shiri also said the government will continue investing in water reserves to mitigate against the challenges of climate change.
