NSSA CHALLENGED TO STRENGTHEN REGULATIONS ON MINING COMPANIES

Zimbabwe Diamonds and Allied Mineral Workers Union (ZDAMWU) General Secretary , Mr Justice Chinhema has challenged National Social Security Authority (NSSA) to make sure that foreign mining companies operating in the country are registered with the organisation for the benefit of employees.
His concern comes amid an incident where an employee for a Chinese investor Sanhe He Holdings in Zvishavane, Aston Ruzvidzo had his hand crushed by a compacting brick making machine while on duty yesterday and was ferried to a hospital in Bulawayo for treatment.
Mr Chinhema told YAFM news that the challenge is that employees from that company are not registered with NSSA hence becoming difficult to acquire emergency or life time cover benefits.
He said as an organisation representing mining employees rights, they have engaged NASA to make relevant moves to make sure that Sanhe He complies with NSSA regulations.
Mr Chinhema said they are concerned with unfair labor practices by mining companies in the country and called on relevant stakeholders to work together for improved employees conditions.
