The Zimbabwe Nurses Association says it has not received official communication from government on its decision to relieve striking nurses of their duties.
ZNA’s Secretary General Enock Dongo told YAFM news in a telephone interview that they were shocked to receive news of the firing of nurses on the media saying the association awaits a dialogue with the government on the rightful position of an approximated 14 000 nurses who are currently on industrial action.
He however disagreed with reports that the $17 million released by government to cover nurses` allowances was actually settling payment arrears for the month of April.
Dongo stressed that salary arrears for nurses backdates to 2010 but they are focused on an upwardrd review of salaries and working conditions.
He also accused the minister of health and child care Dr David Parirenyatwa for failing to present genuine challenges faced by nurse to the presidium.
