RECRUITMENT OF NURSES BEGINS

Government has ordered hospitals to start recruiting nursing staff to replace nurses who were fired for defying government orders to return to work.
Health and Child Care Acting Permanent Secretary Mr Sydney Makarawo, yesterday wrote to all hospital Chief Executive Officers and Provincial Medical Officers instructing them to recruit new staff.
Makarawo said central hospitals can only recruit up to 30 retired nurses, while provincial hospitals can recruit a maximum of 20, district hospitals 15 retired nurses, rural hospitals 5 and rural clinics a maximum of two.
The Health Services Board also recalled all nurses who were on leave to return to work immediately.
