The Ministry of Mines and Mining Development says it is not only revamping old mines in the country, but is also looking into opening brand new mines in an effort to restore the country’s economy.
Speaking at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Zimbabwe (ICAZ) conference, on the sidelines of the ongoing Zimbabwe International Trade Fair in Bulawayo, permanent secretary in the ministry Munesu Munodawafa said the new mines have the potential to generate more revenue as well as creating employment opportunities in the mining sector.
The new mines to be opened include Liberation Coal Mine in Lupane and Arcadia Lithium Mine, which is expected to be fully operational by June this year.
Government is keen on reviving a number of mines in the country which include Shabanie Mashava, Sandawana, Gaths, Jena, Sabi, Elvington, Golden Kopje, Alaska, Sanyati and Mhangura among others.
