Gold production continues to surge in the country reaching 10,1 tonnes in the first quarter of the year with small scale miners continuously outshining primary producers.
Statistics availed by Fidelity Printers and Refiners last week reveals that gold output was 10,1 tonnes from January to April with small scale miners contributing 6,1 tonnes compared to 4 tonnes by primary producers.
In an interview with YAFM news Zimbabwe Miner Federation spokesperson, Mr Dosman Mangisi says small scale miners are capable of achieving 30 tonnes targeted for this year if they start accessing loans from Gold Development Initiative Fund.
He acknowledged decision by FPR from the third quarter of last year to start buying gold for as little as 5 grams from small scale miners on condition they produce national identity documents saying it contributed to the production upscale.
Small scale miners have became the biggest contributors to gold mining since last year where they 53% of the 24,8 tonnes achieved.
