POVERTY A KEY DRIVER OF HIV PREVALENCE

Government says it will be difficult to fight HIV and other sexually transmitted infections because of high levels of poverty in the country.
National Coordinator with the Ministry of Healthy and Child Care for the DREAMS initiative which focuses on HIV prevention among young people, Taurai Bhatasara says poverty is the key driver of HIV in the country.
Majority of marginalized groups in the country are young people and research has shown that high HIV prevalence is high among youths and other key populations like sex workers and long distance truck drivers.
