FEW WOMEN STILL PARTICIPATE IN ELECTORAL PROCESS

Zimbabwe Peace Project Director Jestina Mukoko has expressed concerns over gender imbalance in the electoral field, citing patriarchy as the leading cause of fewer participation by women.
Mukoko said this has been happening in most political parties in the country.
She also urged women to participate in numbers in future elections, as the 60 seats allocated to women are not enough for them to utilize their potential.
This comes at a time when political parties have long been challenged to adhere to the Gender Commission Act (Chapter 10:31), following the continued attacks against female political leaders in the country.
