The Environmental Management Agency has moved in to enforce the ban on chrome mining along the Zvishavane-Shurugwi after government ordered mining activities to stop after raising concerns of environmental and infrastructure damage.
In a telephone interview with YaFM News, Environmental Management Agency Midlands Provincial Education and Publicity Officer, Mr Simon Musasiwa said the miners had previously appealed to continue working but they had now been stopped by government.
He added that they could only resume work when they obtained the proper paperwork.
On Monday, the Minister of State in the Midlands Province Owe Ncube toured the area and ordered chrome miners to cease operations.
Minister Ncube said the development is causing disturbance to motorists, posing as a hazard and threatening the road infrastructure.
