16 days of gender activism campaigns have seen women in mining from Mberengwa being accorded more contract mining opportunities at Dohwa 79 Mine as part of efforts to recognise their existence in a male dominant sector.
Mberengwa Women in Mining Association Chairperson, Ms. Ropafadzai Mangena However said women are still faced with discrimination challenges in accessing mine clams.
She urged the ministry of mines and mining development to recognize women contribution through awarding them equal opportunities in getting clams with their male counterparts.
Meanwhile, as a way of commemorating GBV Bethany Projects in Partnership with Oxfarm will today be hosting an event on eliminating Gender-based violence within the mining sector.
The event which will be engaging stakeholders like government and mining companies will be held at Pote Central this morning.
