GVT CHIPS IN AS LOCAL AUTHORITIES FACE CHALLENGES IN PAYING ITS EMPLOYEES

Written by on May 9, 2019

The government says most local authorities around the country are failing to pay  employees therefore it is  coming in assisting them to come up with sustainable budgets that will allow the smooth flow of operations.

Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing July Moyo speaks:

Minister Moyo was speaking during a question and answer session inparliament. Most local authorities complain that parastatals and government departments owe them millions of dollars in unpaid rates.

Meanwhile  Gweru City Mayor, Josiah Makombe  has urged residents and rate payers to always  participate in regular council meetings to have a voice in  developmental issues that affect their town and  community  .

In a telephone interview with  Great Dyke news reporter Tatenda Gwezuva, Mr  Makombe there is a relevant low turn up from residents in critical meetings such as  drafting of budget which will influence operations and service delivery for the entire year .

There have always been wrangles between residents and rate payers with their responsible local authorities over poor service delivery and  conflicting views over  priorities which usually emanates after the budget has been approved.
