WOMEN MINERS RESORT TO PARTNERSHIP WITH EMPLOYEES AFTER FAILING TO PAY SALARIES

Women in small scale gold mining say due to current economic setbacks which continue affecting production in the sector, they have resorted in 50/50 share agreement on any discovered output with their employees instead of paying salaries.
Women miners from Mthonjeni and Sabi mining site who spoke to Great Dyke news reporter Savemore Sithole revealed that although they are not happy with the arrangement, it keeps them afloat.
Women argued that they hardly survive in this male dominant industry especially this time when the economic situation is unfavorable.
Meanwhile,ZMF chairman Nyenje however revealed that share agreement practise is illegal in the sector, workers should be given salaries .
Recently this year sole gold buyer Fidelity Printers and Refiners had set aside$ 20 million loan to capacitate women in mining projects under its Gold Development Initiative Fund (GDIF).The fund have availed loans amounting to $130 million yet only 11 percent of those loans were taken by women.
