POWER CUTS, FUEL SHORTAGES ELBOWS SUGARCAN FARMERS OUT OF BUSINESS

In other news……Sugarcane farmers in the low veld of Chiredzi say the on going fuel shortages coupled with prolonged power cuts have immensely impacted negatively on sugar production.

Speaking to Great Dyke News reporter Stephen Mawarire farmers bemoaned challenges encountered ranging from irrigation of crops to transportation of sugarcane to responsible mills.

 

Meanwhile ZESA spokesperson Fullard Gwasira said ZESA have always prioritized farmers through limiting load shedding especially those for winter cropping to avoid production losses.
He said this season however power distribution has became more complex as power cuts are attributed to low water level at the utility’s main pumping station. in Kariba
